I have written a small hack to play more with a nice feature of Coppermine, the gallery script I am using here : the keywords you give to each picture.

The script adds, to the search page for example, a list of all keywords used, and the number of pictures for each (see my search page). I thought it made keywords very similar to the "tag" feature you have in Gmail or del.icio.us, if that makes sense to you.

I came across this about 4 years ago in a Perl mailing list, and I thought it was pretty. The "translation" of this punctuation "poem" is :

  1. Waka waka bang splat tick tick hash,
  2. Caret at back-tick dollar dollar dash,
  3. Bang splat tick dollar under-score,
  4. Percent splat waka waka number four,
  5. Ampersand right-paren dot dot slash,
  6. Vertical-bar curly-bracket tilde tilde CRASH.

I've found another one tonight, as pretty as the first one (and probably as old as well, by the way)

Doh. This is one of these days, when you discover something that has existed for 30 years already, and something so cool that you suspect everyone on earth already knows about it : I've just found you can monitor projects on Sourceforge :-P

I bet it'll cost me a few spam from OSDN Network, but I'm now monitoring Azureus, Coppermine, Gallery 2 (the one with MySQL support), phpMyAdmin and, a bit too late since I've been hacked and exploited 2 days ago on my primary site, phpBB2.

Been comment spammed again, this time with 380 comments about casino and poker. I am or have been trying several anti-spam plugins, but alas trying to protect from spam is an endless and hopeless war, it's just a matter of how much time you have to delete crap.
I think I will probably stop pinging update services such as pingomatic before all this crap ruins my blogging experience…

One thing really silly is the way digital cameras name their files : dsc00001.jpg or something similar, which is quite annoying when you try to sort old pictures. So I made a small bash script that renames every picture with a more useful filename : 041131-001.jpg for example. To do so, I'm using a Perl script I've made, datemodif, which outputs a modification date in various formats, but I wanted to do a more portable script, using only Bash and default GNU utils, but not Perl.

After some testing, here is the function I've added to my .bash_profile :

  1. function getmodif {
  2.    stat -c "%y" $1 | cut -d" " -f1 | sed -e 's/..//' -e 's/-//g'
  3. }

Sample output :

  1. [ozh@SARL ~/htdocs/ozh]$ ls -l index.php
  2. -rw-r--r--    1 sarl     515         20728 nov 30 23:13 index.php
  3. [sarl@SARL ~/htdocs/ozh]$ getmodif index.php
  4. 041130

Press. Word press.
w00t ! All done. I've upgraded the version of WordPress this site uses, from 1.2 to some nightly build of the current alpha, 1.3-alpha5. Everything was more or less smooth, I'm always a bit stressed when it comes to modifying the whole blog :P

Version 1.3 has really nice improvements here and there in the admin section. I'll go now for some live testing, hope everything will work ok :)

Two interesting links about King Sized photography :
* Gigapxl: this is ZI digital camera I want for Christmas. Forget your poor 6 million pixels DSC, we are talking here about 1000 million :) The gallery is pretty.
* The 2.5 gigapixel photo: not exactly a photography, but a picture made up from 600 pictures. Zooming in the image with the Flash tool is quite jaw dropping when you realize how deep you can go into details.

And I thought my panorama from 6 overlapping pictures was ubercool … :)
