This guy makes awesome WordPress themes, turning your blog into a real command line interface, with command history and all. Flavors : C64 or Linux shell.

Practically unusable, totally search engine unfriendly, but man, this is fun :)

I stumbled upon a forum post on Digital Point Forum : someone is selling their Spiderman 3 trailer site. The revenue and traffic stats are quite juicy : around $450 for the last 3 months, which is really not bad considering the low amount of work put into the site (4 or 5 pages, some images, a few links out, and some RSS fetching from news sites such as Yahoo to keep the whole thing fresh)

You also need some SEO work to make your site get its way up into search engine results, but this shouldn't be big deal considering the fact that you can create your site before anyone else does. Working on such a site 6 months or so before the buzz gets really loud seems a good idea. And it seems there are even some people ready to buy your site after the movie launches! (which will kill the site, obviously)

Think about this : create and monetize micro sites for upcoming blockbusters (Spiderman4, 5, 6, Pirates of the Carribean 4, you name them all). Each of them would require about 2 hours of work and a $12 domain registration. You can easily push the concept a bit further and create microsite for upcoming video game hits, future popular sports events, predictable celebrity events (next Hollywood Star's wedding, divorce, first kid, drug scandal, suicide).

Hello world !

It was rather long (damn, 3 months already ? time flies !) but I think it's all done now : I've moved my blog here. Welcome (back) to planetOzh, version 4 ! My Technorati suicide (so long, rank 200 or so) is commited : new look, new domain, new evewyfing !

I planned, initially, to just modify a bit my previous theme, but the more I was trying to tweak CSS or PHP bits here and there, the more I was bored with it. I wanted more space, less stuff, I needed some refreshing change. I'm rather satisfied with my new theme, I hope you will like it too. Well, at least I hope you won't hate it :)

I added a few interesting features. My favorite two :

  • Gallery ajaxification : 4 random images are pulled off my yet-to-be-moved gallery and you can get another set of random images without reloading the page (wow, cross domain ajax, leet !)
  • Adsense : I think this theme will perform much less from an Adsense point of view, and regular visitors won't be served any ad. What's a regular visitor, you ask ? At the moment I've configured it to be someone who came here at least 3 times, and within the last month

The moving process itself was just as cumbersome and boring as expected. Changing server, domain, path, permalink structure, everything at once, was a matter of gazillions of little stuff to take care of. Hopefully, I took some interesting note while moving, I shall write them down some day.

Next step : hack the hell out of .htaccess rewrite rules so that everything on frenchfragfactory.net/ozh/ nicely maps to planetozh.com/blog ! Expect major breakage on my old blog :P

If things go as expected and planned, this should be my very last post here : I'm moving this blog somewhere else (yes, there)

I've began to work at the megacumbersome task that is moving a rather old site, with lots of download links, files, old html content, static stuffs and database things. Even moving WordPress itself from a WP install to another is not as painless as I would have thought, as the SQL is spewing UTF-8 weirdies everywhere.

There is no ETA for this, I'll need a few spare hours that will make either a couple of days or a couple of weeks :) Till everything is moved, comments here are closed so I don't have to manage two different databases. See you on the other side :)

Sorry for the frequent down time these past few days. The apache and mysql daemons are randomly dying, my sysadmin suspects that someone is triggering some bug or exploit somewhere but he cannot hunt this sucker down. As soon as I find an ounce of courage and a few spare hours, I think I'll eventually move my WordPress blog to http://planetozh.com, which hasn't been really anything but a web placeholder for years now. Hey, it's even got PR6 :)

A few things have kept me from moving my blog for quite some time now. I have here a free, unlimited, unmetered and uncapped hosting with any feature I could dream of (except root access maybe), but it has come to a point that's really annoying and where annoyances surpass benefits of this hosting.

In short, again, sorry for the downtimes :)

Wow. Impressionnant. Source.

WP SEO: they made a theme from WP’s dashboard. Not too bad. (1) «

Casino Royale

  • 3 measures of Gordon's gin
  • 1 measure of vodka
  • ½ measure of Kina Lillet
  • Shake until ice cold and serve in a deep champagne goblet with a large thin slice of lemon peel

Not sure if it tastes good, but I really liked the movie !

It took me a few minutes of googling so I'm posting this as a reminder for myself and anyone who shall land here from a search engine : how to add .ogg support to Nero 7 and burn .ogg files straight to an audio CD.

  • Download the Nero Ogg plugin here (free registration required) (hint)
  • Put the decompressed .dll file into "\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\AudioPlugins"
  • That's it.

(No Nero or CD burning or Ogg or whatever support here, by the way. If you happen to land here from a search engine, this is not a support forum or something like this)

I'm not sure about what could heaven be, but I'm pretty sure about hell now. Right now, the closest thing to hell has to be :

  • being on sick days that stick you at home
  • while your wife's parents are at your home for the same week

What a greaaat week.
