Feedster have recently updated their list of the Top 500 most important and interesting blogs of the galaxy.
Or so they say : I'm ranking #216 there ! And I'm way ahead of much more known and famous blogs from my reading list, such as 456 Berea Street (design blog, ranking 343) or Inside Google (#286). These blogs have thousands of readers when I have about 100 and they rank lower than I do ? I know there is a huge difference between readership and link popularity, but this is getting too weird.
Either Feedster's ranking technology is bullsh*t, or I just don't understand it. For blog popularity checking and ego-surfing I'd rather use Blogpulse or Technorati. But well, I had anyway to put a "Feedster Top 500" sticker somewhere on my blog :-P

Unfortunately I don't know the sites that you referenced so I can't speak specifically to them but …
The way that this is measured is by inbound links with recent links weighted fairly significantly. Perhaps you had a lot of inbound links recently where they didn't. Lots of sites have many readers but, for example, if they don't publish full content feeds, they tend to have less inbound links. That's a possibility too.
But you do make a good blog. Thank you for that.

I'm pretty sure the reason is because you release actual things for people to download, files that people will link to (based on my noticing the WordPress theme you released, which I am considering using for myself). Damn, I should start writing some software or something…

Nathan » I have a tip for you : make an "unbranded" version of your theme and release it. The wordpressosphere is lacking 3 columns themes :)
