{"id":343,"date":"2005-09-12T10:37:37","date_gmt":"2005-09-12T08:37:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/frenchfragfactory.net\/ozh\/?p=343"},"modified":"2005-09-12T10:38:45","modified_gmt":"2005-09-12T08:38:45","slug":"technorati-links-and-wordpress-themes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/planetozh.com\/blog\/2005\/09\/technorati-links-and-wordpress-themes\/","title":{"rendered":"Technorati Links and WordPress Themes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I noticed a recent improvement on Technorati&#39;s Search feature : when you search for sites linking to a blog, they now specify whether results are returned because of their content (i.e. someone wrote a blog entry containing a link to some site) or because the site uses a theme that matches your search query.<\/p>\n<p>Examples : a lot of people use themes by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/search\/ifelse.co.uk\">if&#8230;else<\/a>, and upcoming theme <a href=\"http:\/\/binarybonsai.com\/k2\/\" rel=\"tag\">K2<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/binarybonsai.com\/\">Michael Heilemann<\/a> is already widely <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/search\/binarybonsai.com\">spread<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is a nice technological improvement : except for K2 that adds some meta data in the &lt;head> (&quot;<em>&lt;meta name=&quot;template&quot; content=&quot;K2 Beta One r73&#8243; \/><\/em>&quot;), making theme identification quite easy for a search engine, other WordPress themes produce no theme specific content but the link to their stylesheet, pointing to <em>wp-content\/themes\/yourtheme\/style.css<\/em>. So I guess the Technorati folks built their own list of WP themes so that they can filter search results.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#39;t know if this is part of their plans, but Technorati seems to be a few lines of code away from making a WordPress theme list ranked by popularity and number of links.
