{"id":181,"date":"2005-01-14T13:11:26","date_gmt":"2005-01-14T12:11:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/frenchfragfactory.net\/ozh\/archives\/2005\/01\/14\/canon-ip4000r-under-linux\/"},"modified":"2005-01-14T13:17:54","modified_gmt":"2005-01-14T12:17:54","slug":"canon-ip4000r-under-linux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/planetozh.com\/blog\/2005\/01\/canon-ip4000r-under-linux\/","title":{"rendered":"Canon IP4000R under Linux"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I bought myself a nice printer, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canon.co.uk\/for_home\/product_finder\/printers\/bubble_jet\/pixma_ip4000r\/index.asp\">Canon Pixma iP4000R<\/a>, with the intention of using it under Linux as well as under Windows, even though Canon printers are far from being the best choice when it comes to Linux (to be honest, when I saw &quot;Ethernet \/ Wifi connection&quot;, I went &quot;OoOOoow&quot; and couldn&#39;t change my mind, it had to be *this* printer :)<\/p>\n<p>For my own (and anyone interested) reference, here is what I used.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>First off, I&#39;ve tried to get <a href=\"http:\/\/www.turboprint.de\/english.html\">Turboprint<\/a> drivers working. It was half of a success : I managed to get the free version of the drivers working, but they add a laaaarge &quot;Turboprint&quot; logo whenever you print something. Turboprint licenses are about 25 \u00e2\u201a\u00ac\/$. No way. I&#39;ve even tried a errrrm you know try-before-you-buy license key found somewhere in the internet, but even when it said I had the registered version, I couldn&#39;t get it to remove the logo.<\/p>\n<p>After googling a bit more, here is what I&#39;ve used and how I&#39;ve set it up.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I&#39;ve installed japanese drivers for the i860 under linux, found here :  <a href=\"ftp:\/\/download.canon.jp\/pub\/driver\/bj\/linux\/\">ftp:\/\/download.canon.jp\/pub\/driver\/bj\/linux\/<\/a><br \/>\nDidn&#39;t really know what I need, so I installed <em>bjfilter860-1.3-1.i386.rpm<\/em>,  <em>bjfiltercom-1.3-1.i386.rpm<\/em>,  <em>bjfiltercups-2.4-0.i386.rpm<\/em>, and <em>bjfilterpixus860i-2.4-0.i386.rpm<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Using the web interface of <\/a href=\"http:\/\/www.cups.org\/\">CUPS<\/a>, I&#39;ve added a new printer, with the following specs :\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Name <\/strong>: whatever you want, mine is IP4000R (how original)<\/li>\n<li>Location and Description : optional, whatever you want<\/li>\n<li><strong>Device <\/strong>: I chose &quot;<strong>Appsocket \/ Jetdirect<\/strong>&quot;, and then for <strong>URI<\/strong> I use : <strong>socket:\/\/10.0.0.140:9100\/<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Drivers <\/strong>: Canon, then <strong>Pixus i860<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p>w00t ! Remote ethernet Canon iP4000R printer now working \\o\/<\/p>\n<p>The web interface of CUPS seems to be capped at 600 DPI with these drivers.
