Something to watch: EasyWP is a one-file script that downloads and unzips latest WordPress build on your web server (so the average Joe doesn’t have to download the archive, unzip on his computer, and then upload everything). The file is rather immature at the moment (using only fopen(), needing Zip PHP extension, these things) but will evolve. Eventually this kind of feature has to be integrated to WordPress, I’d say.

    Neat script.

The last time I checked, WordPress has an auto-upgrader integrated no? For fresh installing, we can’t expect a non-existing-yet WordPress to download and install it self can we? ;)

Oh, and most of (if not all) hosts are providing one-click installs which are really up-to-date.

An » I’m exactly expecting, some day, that WP will be able to install itself on a server where it’s not installed yet. Popular blog software Dotclear does this already: instead of downloading & installing the whole stuff, you just download & run a simple installer file which does everything for you.

I’m making a tool that I’ll host on the easywp website where if you can’t get the easywp script working, you can use this tool by entering your ftp information, it’ll do the same thing.
